The Royal Priesthood of Christians
By virtue of our baptism and confirmation in the Catholic Church, we are all members of the Royal Priesthood of Jesus Christ. The ordained ministry of major orders (Bishop, Priest and Deacon) are set aside to perform specific sacred functions, but it is the laity who should bare responsibility for other ministries in the Church.
Our parish of St Augustine Webster in Barton-upon-Humber fully embraces the gifts and talents of our lay people, who perform vital roles in the mission of the Church.
In fact, without our army of Christians carrying out their various ministries within the parish, we could not offer such a broad range of groups, services and celebrations. Some of these ministries include:
- Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist
- Sick Visiting
- Supporting the Elderly
- Facilitating Holy Hour and Adoration
- Leading the Recital of the Blessed Rosary
- Leading Prayer Groups
- Leading Bible Study Groups
- Organising Events and Festivals
- Cleaning the Church
- Flower Arranging
- Providing Hospitality to Strangers
